QUESTIONS

Direct trade vs Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a third-party certification that guarantees a price floor. Direct trade is a roaster-to-farm relationship without a unified standard, typically paying well above the Fair Trade floor in exchange for documented quality and continuity.

Why does direct trade cost more?

Direct-trade lots usually pay farmers 2-4x the commodity coffee price (often known as the C-price), reflecting both quality and the cost of building long-term relationships. The premium funds farm investment, which compounds quality year over year.
